De Sortis Pasta Factory
Since 1898, wheat has become pasta for love
The history of the De Sortis pasta factory began in the late 1800s with the idea of Vincenzo De Sortis, a mill mechanic in Argentina. His technical expertise allowed him, upon returning to Italy, to build the first stone mill with his sons in Pietragalla, a small town in Basilicata.
The milling business continued until the early 1970s, when Vincenzo realized his dream and founded the De Sortis pasta factory. Vincenzo took care of every detail: he laid the foundation stone of the new plant in May 1972, personally overseeing the facility and focusing the company's attention on product quality.
Today the company covers an area of approximately 25,000 m2, 12,000 of which are covered, with six production lines: two for short-cut pasta, two for long-cut pasta, and two for special "nest" shapes.
De Sortis boasts a daily production of approximately 3,500 quintals of pasta. The company's portfolio includes over one hundred different pasta shapes, ranging from standard to specialty varieties. Furthermore, De Sortis pasta can be bronze- or Teflon-drawn, a process that gives the product different surface textures and consistencies. The diverse product line also includes egg pasta, made with free-range eggs, and whole-wheat semolina pasta, both available in organic form.
